There’s a lot to choose from for Razorback fans this weekend! Football is the headliner, as the Razorbacks travel to Ole Miss for an early start with the Rebels. The team has been much better in practice the last couple of weeks, and maybe this will be the week it all comes together. Ole Miss is very good and can score in bunches. But the Hogs showed last week they can control the ball against a comparable defense, and if they can avoid turnovers and finish drives, who knows? It’s good to see a player like Brooks Ellis get his shot. The Fayetteville freshman made his first collegiate start at middle linebacker for the Hogs last weekend, and by accounts acquitted himself quite nicely. Ellis is the type player this program needs.Mike Anderson’s teams starts playing for keeps this weekend. SIU-Edwardsville comes calling as the basketball Hogs unveil their new-look front line. Coty Clarke, Bobby Portis, and Alandise Harris will prove more than formidable inside. If they can figure it out at point guard and play the type of defense Anderson coaches, this team could turn a corner this season. No tears will be shed in this corner over Oregon’s loss to Stanford. The Cardinal play a very similar style to the one espoused by Bret Bielema and his staff. There were points where Stanford lined up with nine offensive linemen as they pounded the Ducks relentlessly. The two best teams I’ve seen this season are Alabama and Florida State. Neither is guaranteed anything, and the Tide will certainly be tested mightily by LSU. But they deserve to play for the national championship if they win out, and thanks to "normal American football", the Ducks are out of the picture.
