Hogs open at Baylor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team is preparing for a smashing season opener Friday though Sunday at the Baylor Intercollegiate Tournament. Arkansas head coach Robert Cox is sending juniors Christopher Nott and Matt Hogan to represent the Razorbacks against highly touted players from schools including Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, TCU and Tennessee.

"I am excited to get the fall campaign underway, " Cox says. "Baylor hosts a good tournament, always has a solid collection of teams and a lot of ranked players participating. This will be a good indicator of where both Chris and Matt are this season."

Hogan made a strong appearance at Baylor last year winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 against Austin Klores of Texas A&M in singles play. In doubles action, Hogan and former Razorback Blake Strode took charge on the courts, defeating two nationally ranked teams, including a triumph over Baylor’s nationally ranked No. 32 team, Attila Bucko and Jordan Rux, 8-6. The momentum continued for the pair with victory over the 45th-ranked team in the country, Chris Chirico and Wil Spencer from Texas A&M, 8-4. Hogan and Strode advanced to the quarterfinals where they fell 8-5 to the No. 30-ranked duo Eduardo Salas and Roman Stoisavljevic from New Mexico State. Nott boasted a great season, finishing with a 22-13 record earning him a national ranking of 94th in singles play. Nott’s biggest win came in an upset over Oklahoma’s No. 59 Andrei Daescu in a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Nott and partner Dmitry Lebedev gained national attention as they dominated the doubles court early in the season, winning their first four matches and posting a 10-3 record. The duo climbed the preseason rankings at No. 43 in the nation.
