Hogs wrap morning session at Purdue Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— The No. 18-ranked University of Arkansas swimming and diving team posted strong times Saturday in the third session of the Purdue Invitational at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Hogs turned in six of the top 16 times in the 400-yard individual medley, including advancing three into Saturday night’s “A” final. Senior Yi-Ting Siow finished third with a time of 4:17.93 followed by Jamie Marks in fourth at 4:19.14 and Jillienne Schilling next in fifth, stopping the clock at 4:20.84. Junior Erica Totten, sophomore Katie Davis and senior Leah Pierce qualified tenth, 11th and 14th, respectively, for the “B” final.

Sophomore Katie Whitbeck swam a career-best time of 55.23 to finish fifth in the 100y butterfly event. Fellow sophomore Lisa Lunkenheimer touched in at 55.58 to take sixth place. Both will swim in the “A” final. Senior Lynette Ng qualified 14th for the “B” final with a time of 57.97.

Whitbeck was the lone Razorback to qualify for the “A” final in the 200y freestyle event, swimming a career-best time of 1:49.36 to finish third overall. In addition, the Hogs will have four entrants in the “B” final. Schilling set a new career mark with a time of 1:52.44 as did freshmen Chelsea Franklin (1:52.32) and Courtney Hubbard (1.52.54). Junior Megan Haskins stopped the clock at 1:53.26 to finish 16th and claim the final spot in the “B” final.

Siow qualified for her second “A” final of the night with a first-place finish in the 100y breaststroke. She clocked a NCAA “B” cut time of 1:01.20. Pierce finished fourth in 1:03.27 followed by Erin Neumann in eighth place with a time of 1:04.70.

In the 100y backstroke, Ng and freshman Haley Smith each qualified for the “B” final.

The preliminaries in the women’s 1-meter diving event are set to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Finals begin at 6 p.m. and will include the 200y medley relay and the 800y freestyle relay.
