Hudson Named SEC Player Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three days after earning the biggest win of her career, Arkansas senior co-captain Shannon Hudson has been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

It’s her second career weekly honor and first since being named SEC Freshman of the Week in 2014.

Hudson posted the first top-10 win of her career when she rallied from a set and 3-0 down to beat Oklahoma’s 10th-ranked Lily Miyazaki 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1) at the No. 1 position on Saturday in the Razorbacks’ 6-1 victory over the Sooners. She also teamed in doubles with junior Léolia Jeanjean to defeat the Sooners’ 49th-ranked duo of Miyazaki and Julie Byrne 6-3 at the top spot.

“Anytime a senior has a season like Shannon is having, it is great for your program,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “She has taken her preparation and focus to a new level this year, and it’s a very well deserved honor for her.”

Hudson, who has a 9-3 singles record with a 4-1 mark in dual match play this season, has won almost 70 matches combined in singles and doubles during her career. In addition, she was selected as an alternate for the NCAA individual championships each of the last two years.
