FAYETTEVILLE — Soon-to-be Razorback freshman Rachel Box has been named the 2012-13 Outstanding Player of the Year for the state of Arkansas. The honor was announced as part of the All-Arkansas Softball Team, as presented by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Box is part of the recruiting class signed by head coach Mike Larabee in November. During her senior campaign at White Hall High School, Box tallied a .494 batting average, 11 home runs, 28 RBI and a .550 on-base percentage. The 2013 all-state performer helped White Hall post a 24-5 record on the way to the program’s second consecutive Class 5A state title in May. The Lady Bulldogs’ championship win happened at Bogle Park. Over the final two seasons of her prep career, Box totaled 21 home runs and 71 RBI. Box is part of the Razorbacks’ 2013-14 recruiting class that also includes Kelsey Berlin, Jessica Harrison, Shelby Hiers, Loren Krzysko, Grace Moll, Parker Pocklington and Sydney Wright. Box and Krzysko will enter Arkansas as preferred walk-on additions to the program. The Razorbacks just completed their 2013 season with a 36-20 record and an appearance in the Norman Regional final of the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas will next host its summer camp season, beginning June 10-13.
