FAYETTEVILLE – For the second consecutive season, members of the Razorback men’s track and field team were honored Tuesday evening with a reception hosted by University of Arkansas Chancellor G. David Gearheart at the Wallace W. and Jama M. Fowler House. The on-campus reception was held in celebration of the Razorbacks’ 2010 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field title.
Gearhart and his wife Jane, in conjuction with Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long, have formed the initiative to recognized Razorback teams that win an SEC Championship with a ceremony at the Fowler House, home of Chancellor and Mrs. Gearhart. The men’s track and field team was also a guest after capturing the conference indoor crown in 2009.
"This is such a special honor for our program," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "We certainly appreciate the support we receive from the University of Arkansas administration, fans and entire Razorback community. Their support goes a long way in helping us perform to the best of our abilities during competition and it is always special when we can respond with a championship."
Arkansas men’s track and field student-athletes and coaching staff were in attendance for the Fowler House ceremony. Members of the team were recognized for their individual accomplishments and presented with a Chancellor’s Award medal for outstanding athletic and academic achievement.
Behind five event titles and two runner-up finishes, the Razorbacks captured the 2010 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championship. Arkansas hosted the event at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks won the team title with 123 points, four more than second-place Florida.
