Ingram advances Phelps on the bubble

NEWNAN, Ga. – University of Arkansas junior Kristin Ingram advanced to match play at the Women’s Western Golf Association’s 108th National Amateur Championship at Canongate at SummerGrove Golf Club in Newnan, Ga., Tuesday. An hour and a half rain delay forced the suspension of play Tuesday night with the final spot in the Championship Flight undetermined. Five players, including Arkansas junior Tiffany Phelps, took part in a playoff Wednesday morning. The top 64 players from stroke play advance to match play in the Championship Flight with the other golfers placed in match play flights based on their scores. Ingram, a Pasadena, Calif., native opened with a 75 in the first round and shaved two strokes for a second-round 73 finishing 17th in stroke play. The leader, 14-year-old Dottie Ardian of Laguna, Philippines, won the Margaret Lenz Trophy as the medalist with a two-round 138 (70-68) to lead the field.
