Jamie Marshall wins 2009 Wolverine; team takes 2nd

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-Arkansas grabbed another second place finish on Sunday at the 2009 Wolverine, with Razorback Jamie Marshall taking the individual title. Michigan won the tournament after leading the field of 14 teams all three rounds with a 24-under 840(277-278-285).

The Hogs narrowed the gap between Michigan by seven strokes in the last 18 holes to secure their position in second with a 17-under 847(278-288-281). The two-day event was played at the par 72, 6,979 yard Radrick Farms Country Club.

The University of Louisville slid into third place with an 8-under 856(293-285-278), after shaving off 10 strokes in the final round. Baylor followed at 3-under 861(285-289-287), with fifth-place keeping a 3-over score for an 867(288-291-288).

Eastern Michigan was 5-over in sixth followed by Iowa State(+6), Purdue(+9), Miami of Ohio(+16), Wisconsin(+18), Toledo(+19), Xavier University(+25), St. John’s University(+28), and Marshall(+35).

Marshall began the day tied in eighth place with fellow Razorback David Lingmerth, but took the lead after he birdied seven holes in the final round. He was 10-under for the tournament with a 206(70-71-65). He clinched the win from two round leader Lion Kim of Michigan, who finished one stroke behind with a 9-under 207(69-67-71).

Lingmerth also broke into the 60’s in the final round, following just two strokes behind with a 8-under 208(71-70-67). Ty Spinella and Ethan Tracy tied in 32nd place with 6-over 222. Austin was two strokes behind with an 8-over 224(69-78-77).

The Hogs will next see tournament play Oct. 5-6 at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, an event the team won last year. Logon to ArkansasRazorbacks.com for coverage.
