ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Razorback men’s tennis players, Manfred Jeske and Matt Walters have been all over the ITA Summer Circuit this year and earlier this month both players won the doubles main draw at a tournament hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. The tandem won five matches in five days to be crowned the champion and both players also had a strong showing in the singles draw.
In a draw that featured 32 doubles teams, Jeske and Walters were seeded as the third best team and won their first two matches by three games or more before winning the final two matches by an identical 8-2 score. In the final match, the two Hogs faced Andrew Mellow and Watson George of Furman, who were the top-seeded team in the field.
In the singles draw, Jeske was seeded at the No. 5 spot and defeated players from IUPUI and Saint Louis University before dropping his quarterfinal match against Alexander Teppert of Wisconsin, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(8).
Walters nearly made the quarterfinals of the singles draw as well, getting a bye in the first round and defeating Arin Engle of the University of Nebraska-Kearney, 6-0, 6-2. Walters would be defeated in his third round match to Mellow, whom he would face again in the doubles final.
