FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas running back/kick returner Dennis Johnson has been selected to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday.
Johnson piled up a season-high 252 all-purpose yards in the Razorbacks’ 44-28 defeat of 10th-ranked South Carolina last week in Fayetteville. He returned two kickoffs for 130 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown, rushed 15 times for a game-high 86 yards and tied for the game high with four receptions for 36 yards. Johnson’s kickoff return touchdown was his first of the season and third of his career. The score, which is the longest of his career and tied for the 10th-longest kickoff return touchdown in school history, put the Razorbacks ahead 10-7 after South Carolina had taken a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter.
This season, Johnson leads Arkansas with an average of 150.4 all-purpose yards per game and ranks fifth in the SEC with his average of 25.1 yards per kickoff return. The junior from Texarkana, Ark., is the Razorbacks’ leading rusher and has added 215 yards on 16 receptions for an average of 13.4 yards per catch that ranks second on the team.
