Kaluder and Miseviciute doubles champions in all Lady?Back final

Salt Lake City, Utah – A monumental fourth day at the ITA Central Regional Championships set up an unlikely doubles finals match for the University of Arkansas women’s tennis team on Sunday.

The finals match, which featured sophomore Maryori Franco and senior Karina Ledaja and freshmen duo Ela Kaluder and Aurelija Miseviciute, would award the winner an invitation to the ITA National Championships at Ohio State University on Nov. 3-6.

In the all Lady’Back finals match, Franco and Ledaja surged late in the match, but it was not enough to catch the surging freshmen as Kaluder and Miseviciute took the match and the championship, 8-5.

The match marks the second time this season the two Lady’Back doubles teams have met in the final match of a tournament. Earlier this month, the same scenario occurred at the USTA Collegiate Classic, but the two pairs agreed to be co-champions.

With the win, Kaluder and Miseviciute improve their team-best doubles record to 15-2. Team freshman has not lost a match in exactly one month to the day.

“There was excellent doubles played all weekend,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “both teams showed what it takes and matches like these will certainly help us this spring.”
