FRANKLIN, Tenn. – University of Arkansas newcomer Dylan Kim and senior Alana Uriell both posted rounds in the 60’s moving up the leaderboard and ensuring the No. 15 Razorbacks remain on top of the leaderboard in round two action of the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee, on Saturday.
Kim, a junior transfer from Plano, Texas, posted the best round of the day with a 67 and was one of four Razorbacks under par on Saturday. Uriell added a 69 and moved into a tie for second place overall with teammate Maria Fassi who shot 71 on Saturday. Junior Cara Gorlei added a 2-under 70 while junior Kaylee Benton rounded out the Arkansas scores with a 75.
Kim’s 67 pairs with her first round 70 and she is in the clubhouse in eighth place with 137 (-7). Saturday’s bogey-free round featured five birdies on hole Nos. 2, 9, 12, 17 and 18.
Uriell’s 69 moves the Carlsbad, California native, up one spot into a tie for second place overall. She is 8-under after finishing play on Saturday with five consecutive birdies to shoot 136. Fassi is also in the clubhouse with an 8-under 136. Fassi posted the best round of the tournament with a 65 on Friday and the duo are just one shot out of first-place.
Gorlei also finished strong with birdies on three of her final five holes. She is 3-under for the tournament at 141. Benton finished the day tied for 57th shooting 74-75=149.
The solid play helped the Razorbacks to a second round 277 and a tournament-leading 550 as Arkansas moved to 26-under for the weekend. They are three shots better than No. 2 Arizona State who is 23-under with 553, followed by No. 3 Alabama who is 20-under shooting 556. Host No. 60 Vanderbilt slipped three spots to fourth place with 558 and No. 8 Northwestern rounds out the top five shooting 565.
From Shauna Taylor
“We got off to a slow start but I’m really proud of the way we finished. Alana finished with five straight birdies and shows that she has tremendous fight. She helped us rally at the end. Maria, Dylan and Cara all birdied the last hole again and I just think that kept us in a great position to achieve our goals tomorrow. Dylan was very, very solid with a 5-under and I love how Cara fought today. She was 2-over through eight holes and she ended up shooting 2-under. It’s about putting yourself in a good position and executing the game plan. If we do that we will be in a position to accomplish our goals.”
Play continues on Sunday with the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The Razorbacks continue the fall at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M. This year’s invitation-only event moves from Florida to Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Olympic Hills Golf Club. The ANNIKA is the second of four fall events for the Razorbacks and Maria Fassi is the defending champion. Fassi paced the Razorbacks to a runner-up finish a year ago.
