Koleva Allison earn academic honor

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas juniors Denitza Koleva and Amy Allison earned selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District volleyball teams it was announced this week. Koleva earned second-team honors while Allison was a third-team selection. "This is such a tremendous honor for both of these young ladies," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "While I am always proud of my players’ success on the court, I am equally as proud of their success in the classroom. These are two young ladies that work hard on and off the court and the honor is well deserved." Koleva, one of Arkansas’ leading hitters, has a 3.75 grade point average in kinesiology-athletic training. Named SEC co-freshman of the year in 2003, Koleva was also a member of the all-freshman team that season. Last year, the Sofia, Bulgaria, native added a selection to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s All-District Honorable Mention team. Koleva’s junior campaign saw her become the 10th player in school history to reach her career 1,000th kill. She currently leads Arkansas in three statistical categories pacing the Lady’Backs in kills, kills per game and service aces. Academically, Koleva was a member of the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll in 2003 and the SEC Academic Honor Roll last season. Allison maintains a 3.32 in kinesiology for her career. The Jenks, Okla., native is a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Week selection and has ranked as high as second in the nation in blocking this season. She has had five matches with double-digit block totals this year. Koleva and Allison, along with the rest of the Lady Razorbacks, return to the court Sunday as Arkansas hosts Kentucky in the final regular season match of the year.
