Kushner Leads Lady'Backs at Florida

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas sophomore diver Brieanne Kushner led the Lady Razorback swimming and diving team in Gainesville, Fla., Friday, Jan. 20, against Southeastern Conference opponents Florida and Alabama.

Kushner recorded two first-place finishes despite the Lady’Backs falling to Florida, 91-42, and Alabama, 104-34. Kushner won the one-meter springboard, with a season-high score of 245.60, and three meter against Florida.

Arkansas swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said the conference rivals posed a difficult challenge but the Lady’Backs were successful in the diving and sprint freestyle events.

“This was a tough SEC competition,” she said. “The highlights for us were Brieanne’s (Kushner) wins versus Florida on both boards, and Summer Jackson’s win versus Alabama in the 50 free.”

Junior Mariann Fulop tallied a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke events against Alabama, while freshman Elizabeth Engs took second in the 200 breaststroke against Florida and Alabama.

The Lady’Backs continue SEC competition as the squad travels to Auburn, Ala., for a meet with the Tigers and Florida State, Jan. 28 at 11:00 a.m.
