LaBarbera, Lewis Move Up Leaderboards

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Current and former University of Arkansas women’s golf team members continue to play well in several events around the world this week.

Current Razorback Maria Fassi is representing Team Mexico at the World University Games in Taiwan while senior Jordy LaBarbera is taking part in the LPGA’s Qualifying School in Mission Hills, California.

LaBarbera is joined by former Razorbacks Regina Plasencia, Victoria Vela and Summar Roachell at the event.

Former Razorbacks Stacy Lewis and Gabriela Lopez are in Canada this week at the Open north of the border.

LPGA Q SCHOOL
Jordy LaBarbera continues to move up the leaderboard and is tied for 30th overall with one round remaining. The Allen, Texas, native has steadily climbed in the standings and is 4-under shooting 71–70–71—212. She is six shots back of the leader but well inside the cutline to advance to Stage II of qualifying. LaBarbera had two birdies on the day and has eight for the weekend.

Former Razorback Regina Plasencia is also inside the projected cut and is 3-under with rounds of 65–74–74—213. She is tied for 36th overall. Plasencia opened with one of the best rounds of the tournament shooting a 65 on the Player’s course. She and LaBarbera move back to the Dinah Shore course for the final round.

Victoria Vela ended her day with a 3-over 79 and is tied for 262nd shooting 75–79–75—229. Summar Roachell is 17-over for the tournament shooting 75–78–80—233 and is tied for 299th. The duo did not make the cut to the final round.

Players take part in a 72-hole stroke play format. Competition takes place with one round each on the Dinah, Player and Palmer courses at Mission Hills Country Club. A cut will be made after 54 holes and the final round takes place on the Dinah course. A minimum of the top 60 finishers plus ties will move on to Stage II at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.

WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
Junior golfer Maria Fassi is taking part in the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan, this week.

Fassi, playing for her home country of Mexico, fired rounds of 73–71–74—218 and is 2-over on the par-72 course at Sunrise Golf and Country Club. The Razorback All-American is tied for eighth overall.

Mexico is in sixth place overall, behind the United States who leads the tournament after leap-frogging host Chinese Taipei on Saturday. There is one round remaining with medals awarded on Sunday.

Former Razorback Stacy Lewis took part in the World University Games in 2006. Lewis was the individual medalist and paced Team USA to the title that year.

LPGA’S CANADIAN PACIFIC WOMEN’S OPEN
Former Razorbacks Stacy Lewis and Gabriela Lopez continued to play well in third round action at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday.

Lewis remains in the top 10 and is tied for sixth with one round remaining. The Woodlands, Texas, native is 7-under shooting 69–68–69—206. She is three shots back of the leader.

Lopez is tied for 52nd and is even over three rounds. She posted scores of 73–69–61—213.
