Lady' Backs Return to Action

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team hosts the Country Inn and Suites Arkansas Invitational and opens play with Jacksonville State (8-2), Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m.

The Lady Razorbacks (5-8) meet Northwestern State (9-8), Saturday, at 2 p.m. and Centenary (11-2), Sunday, at 2 p.m. All games are doubleheaders.

Arkansas head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he expects the final home tournament to prime the Lady’Backs for Southeastern Conference play.

“It should be good competition for us to continue to give a lot of young players experience and to prepare us for our SEC opener in Georgia,” he said.

In the circle, junior Kayce Odle and sophomore Katy Henry both finished the Lady’Back Invitational, Feb. 24-26, with a 2-0 record. Offensively, senior catcher Shana Easley leads Arkansas with 13 hits and a .342 batting average.

The Lady’Backs have a 2-0 all-time lead over Jacksonville State but Northwestern State has a 3-6 advantage in the series. Arkansas has a 5-1 record against Centenary, but in the previous meeting, Feb. 17, the Ladies defeated the Lady’Backs, 6-4.
