Lady'Back Alumni match a success

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team had a successful start to the their season with a tough match against the alumni in scrimmage action in Barnhill Arena Saturday. The Lady Razorbacks hit just .169 with 55 kills from six different players in the final tune-up before beginning the 2004 season when the Lady’Backs host Kansas Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. match. “We always know we’re going to get a pretty good match out of our alumni,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “They all still play quiet a bit and they give us a good test before we start the season. We got a chance to take a look at our new players and see what our timing is like in a game situation. We have a lot of things we need to work on but that’s exactly the point of a match like this.” Defending Southeastern Conference co-freshman of the Year Denitza Koleva paced Arkansas with 15 kills and four digs. All-SEC returner Jennifer Haaser and newcomer Jessica Dorrell added 10 each for Arkansas. The alumni were led by Sara Kincaid with 19 kills and Chandra Hicks with 10. “We didn’t serve or block as well as I would have liked,” said Poole. “But that’s why you play these matches. We had a chance to get some of the nerves out of the way.” For more information about Arkansas volleyball or tickets to an event log on to www.ladybacks.com or call the Lady Razorback Ticket Office at 57-LBACK.
