Lady'Back Divers in the Zone

FAYETTEVILLE-Freshmen divers Brieanne Kushner, Jamie Hyslop and Hilarie Wilson are representing the University of Arkansas at the NCAA Zone “D” Diving Championships, March 11-13, in College Station, Texas. The women’s three-meter springboard event begins Friday, at 4:15 p.m., inside the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on the Texas A&M campus.

The Lady Razorback trio is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships, March 17-19, in West. Lafayette, Ind.

Kushner is the only Lady’Backs competing Friday because she the squad’s springboard specialist. She qualified for zones against Tennessee, Jan. 10

Arkansas diving coach Scott Reich said participating in zone competition is a learning experience for his young crew.

“It’s exciting to have three freshmen in zones,” Reich said. “It really sets them up well for the future. Not many freshmen qualify for NCAAs. It’s a great start to their careers.”

Reich said he was happy with his team’s focus and expects Kushner to qualify for nationals on three meter, which is her best event.

“They seem in good spirits,” Reich said. “She (Kushner) should do well. She’s had some really good practices recently.”
