Lady'Back volleyball signee earns award

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas volleyball signee Catherine Fowler was named the state of Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year recently. "Catherine had a very good high school career and it is a great honor for her to be named the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year," said Lady Razorback head coach Chris Poole. "We first saw Catherine as a very young player in our volleyball camps and knew she was going to be special. We are lucky that ‘Razorback Red’ runs deep in her family. She could have played for anyone in the country and we are excited about her being on campus early and looking forward to her training with us this spring." "To be named Gatorade Player of the year for the state is such an honor," said Fowler. "I’m very proud to represent my state for high school volleyball this year. I chose the University of Arkansas because it felt like home, and the Arkansas volleyball team is one of the tope teams in the SEC. I really enjoyed my high school career but I can’t wait to begin my collegiate one as well." Fowler, a 6-2 middle blocker from Conway, Ark., led the Wampus Cats to four conference tournament titles and several in-season tournament crowns in her four seasons. She was ranked 26th in PrepVolleyball’s Senior Ace Top 100 and was an alternate for the USA Women’s Junior National Team in 2004. Fowler earned a spot on the A2 Women’s Junior National Team in 2005 and will travel to Europe over this year’s holiday season to play volleyball. Fowler is a two-time all-state and all-conference selection and earned multiple all-tournament team honors during her prep career. The youngest of three to Steve and Rhonda Fowler of Conway, Ark., Fowler has two older brothers, Jason and Ryan. Fowler’s father, Steve, played basketball at Arkansas for two seasons. Fowler graduated early and is currently on campus attending classes and training with the Lady Razorbacks. For more information about Arkansas volleyball, please log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
