Lady'Backs earn high ITA regional rankings

FAYETTEVILLE – After an impressive run during the fall season, University of Arkansas Lady Razorback junior Aurelija Miseviciute received a No. 1 singles rank in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Regional Rankings released on December 7th.

By winning the Central Region’s singles championship in October, as well as compiling an incredible 26-1 overall record during the fall season, Miseviciute earned the top spot for the region.

Along with Miseviciute, Arkansas placed five other Lady’Backs in the singles Top 30. All three Lady’Back doubles teams also received spots in the Top 15.

Junior Ela Kaluder, who was ranked No. 25 nationally in the fall preseason polls, was the next Lady’Back in singles at No. 7. After making it to the quarterfinals of the Central Region championship, both senior Mayori Franco and junior Nanar Airapetian received rankings of No. 9 and No. 10, while freshman Delia Damaschin received her first ever collegiate ranking at No. 19, respectively.

In doubles, Miseviciute and Kaluder produced a No. 2 rank after finishing second at the region championships. Franco and Airapetian, who were ranked No. 25 nationally in the preseason rankings, followed at No. 5. Senior Audrey Bordeleau and Damaschin rounded out ranked Lady’Backs at No. 12 respectively after winning two straight matches and making it to the round of 16.

The ITA national team and individual rankings will be released on January 8th, 2008.
