Lady'Backs earn NFCA academic honor

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas 2006-07 softball team ranked 45th in the nation in the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association All-Academic Teams, it was announced recently. The Lady Razorbacks recorded a 3.22 team grade-point average and ranked second in the Southeastern Conference Western Division and fourth in the SEC overall with only South Carolina, Mississippi State and Florida positioned higher. Arkansas posted a 3.27 team GPA last year and a 3.166 GPA in 2004-05. “We take great pride in our academic accomplishments,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “I’m happy with how we ranked with our peers in the SEC and I’m really proud of our student athletes.” Earlier this year the Lady’Backs earned a record-high 3.30 team GPA for the spring 2007 semester. Seventeen of 19 Lady Razorbacks had GPA’s of 3.0 or better while sophomore Jessica Bachkora was a Women’s Athletics Department Academic Champion with a perfect 4.00 GPA. The NFCA All-Academic Teams are based on cumulative grade-point averages submitted by NFCA member head coaches for the 2006-2007 academic year.
