Lady'Backs hope to clinch West Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team has a chance to win the Southeastern Conference’s Western Division outright with a victory at LSU on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The No. 43 Lady Razorbacks (10-8, 5-5) are currently on a six match winning streak that includes five straight conference victories. On April 9, the Lady’Backs tied the Alabama Crimson Tide for the division lead with a 4-3 win at the Wal-Mart Life and Fitness Center.

An Arkansas victory on Saturday would be the first time since the 1998 season that the Lady’Backs have finish the regular conference season above .500 and also put this Arkansas squad second in Lady’Back tennis history in longest SEC winning streaks with six. The longest current streak also came during the 1998 season when the Lady’Backs won seven consecutive conference matches.

“LSU is always a difficult road match,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “We feel good about the challenge that we’ll present to the Tigers tomorrow.”

Leading the way for Arkansas in singles is freshman Aurelija Miseviciute. The 31st ranked singles player in the country is on a six match winning streak, contributing a singles point in all of Arkansas’ last six wins. On Wednesday, Miseviciute clinched Arkansas’ non-conference win over Oklahoma with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over OU’s Gabby Baker.

Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. For more information, please visit LADYBACKS.COM.
