Lady'Backs Hope to Fool No. 4 Tennessee

FAYETTEVILLE-The University of Arkansas softball team (13-26, 0-12) travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to meet No. 4 Tennessee (39-5, 9-2) in a Southeastern Conference contest, Saturday, April 2, for a noon doubleheader. The series concludes Sunday, April 3 at noon.

Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he expects a challenge from Tennessee especially in the circle as sophomore pitcher Monica Abbott brings a 0.26 ERA into the series.

“The have one of the best pitchers (Abbott) in the country,” Pinkerton said. “Offensive, we have to figure out a way to put the ball in play. Hopefully, we’ll have a couple of good outings like the Border War. Maybe we’ll get some quality starts and scratch out a run or two and steal one or two.”

The Lady Razorbacks split the 2005 edition of the Border War with a 7-2 victory over Tulsa, while falling to Oklahoma State 4-3.

Sophomore outfielder Rachel LeMaster continues to lead the Lady’Backs with a team-high .398 batting average and 49 hits. The Border War also marked sophomore pitcher Sarah Topham’s return to the circle as she threw one inning in relief in the Tulsa win.
