Lady'Backs host Mississippi State Sunday

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas volleyball team is looking for its third consecutive win Sunday as they host Mississippi State at 1:30 p.m., in Barnhill Arena. Arkansas improved to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference Friday downing Mississippi in four games. The Lady’Backs, who played one of the toughest pre-conference schedules in the country this year, are looking to get on a role as SEC action continues. "We had a bit of a let down against Mississippi in game three (on Friday), said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "We have some young players and we’re still learning but we know we’re going to have to play better against Mississippi State on Sunday." The Bulldogs are enjoying one of their best starts in recent history and come to Fayetteville with a 9-6 overall record and a 2-1 SEC mark. Mississippi State is coming off a pair of big conference wins defeating South Carolina in three games last weekend and winning in five at LSU Friday. Arkansas is also playing better in recent matches. The Lady’Backs posted a season-best 20 blocks behind a career-best 12 from junior Karla Crose. Senior Jennifer Haaser and sophomore Denitza Koleva led the Lady’Backs offensively Friday with double-digit kills. "We seem to have one or two elements of our game clicking and something not quite working in each game," said Poole. "We need to get everything going at once. When we do that we can play with anyone." Sunday’s match marks the conclusion of the longest home stand of the year for Arkansas dating back to the C&C Services Invitational Sept. 17-18. Arkansas travels back-to-back weekends playing at Auburn, Oct. 8; at Alabama, Oct. 10; at Georgia, Oct. 15 and at No. 5 Florida, Oct. 17.
