Lady'Backs host Mississippi State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team got back in the win column Friday with a three-game victory over Mississippi and hopes to keep the streak alive hosting Mississippi State in a 1:30 p.m., match in Barnhill Arena Sunday. Arkansas enters the match with a 12-7 overall mark and a 5-2 Southeastern Conference record as they fight to remain on top of the Western Division standings, a position they currently share with Alabama. Mississippi State comes to Fayetteville with a 10-6 mark and is 1-5 in the SEC after a loss at LSU in the Tigers’ first home match of the season Friday. "Every conference match is big this year," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "There are no gimmies and you have to win the ones at home to stay alive in the conference race." Arkansas’ 5-2 league record ties the Lady’Backs for second place overall with Eastern Division foe Tennessee (11-6, 5-2 SEC), and Western Division rival Alabama (17-3, 5-2). Florida leads the league race and is ranked fifth in the country with an 18-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in SEC matches. Kentucky is third in the East and fifth overall at 11-5 and 4-2 in the SEC while LSU is third in the West and sixth overall with a 14-4 overall record and a 4-3. Georgia is 2-4, followed by South Carolina at 2-5, Mississippi State at 1-5, and Mississippi and Auburn with 1-6 league records. Arkansas’ play was solid in their win over Mississippi paced by junior Amy Allison who hit .412 with nine kills in the win. Junior Kele Brewer, redshirt freshman Christina Lawrence and sophomore Ashley Miller also played well in the win. The Lady’Backs also saw the return of junior Denitza Koleva to the lineup, although the junior saw only limited action. Koleva suffered an ankle injury last week in practice and missed Arkansas’ match against St. Louis mid-week. She is again expected to play against Mississippi State. Tickets are still available for the Sunday match and can be bought at the gate or by calling the Lady Razorback Ticket Office at 57-LBACK.
