Lady'Backs look to keep home streak alive

FAYETTEVILLE – Coming off a thrilling 1-0 victory on Friday night, the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team hopes to continue its two-match home winning streak as they face Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi at Lady’Back Field at 12:30 p.m.

Arkansas’ latest victory on Friday was thanks in large part to the efforts of junior Christina Burger and freshman Abbey Wilburn who provided Arkansas’ lone score in the win. Burger knocked in a three-yard uncontested shot off a rebound in the 74th minute to secure the Lady Razorback victory and move them to an impressive 3-1-0 at home this season. Arkansas’ Sunday afternoon opponent should give the Lady Razorbacks even new challenges.

“We put in a lot of energy against Mississippi State,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “Now we need to figure out a way to rebound from that. Our spirits were high on Friday and we need to keep them there for Sunday afternoon. Ole Miss is a tough side that is very fast, so we’ll need to be well rested.”

Arkansas enters the Sunday afternoon matchup with a 1-2-0 SEC record and could certainly use another win to improve their western division standing. Mississippi entered the weekend as the SEC’s Western Division leader and did nothing to hurt that position by claiming a 1-0 victory over LSU in Baton Rouge on Friday.

Over the years, Mississippi has had Arkansas’ number, winning the past eight matchups between the two schools. While the Lady Rebels continue to pick up wins, it does not come without a fight as seven of the 10 career matchups have been determined by a single goal and on several occasions, the Arkansas-Mississippi game has determined the SEC’s Western Division Champion
