Lady'Backs McCurdy third after first round

Jump to agate FAYETTEVILLE – The ninth-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team played its way to third place with an opening round 298 at the 2006 Lady Puerto Rico Invitational Friday. Senior Amanda McCurdy paced the Lady Razorbacks with an even par 72 and is tied for third overall. Fellow senior Courtney Mahon carded a plus-two 74 and is tied for 10th while sophomore Stacy Lewis and freshman Lucy Nunn are tied for 25th overall with 76s. Senior Lindsey Hinshaw rounded out the Arkansas scores with a seven-over 79 and is tied for 46th. Third-ranked and host Purdue University leads after the first round with a plus seven 295. Kent State is second at 297, followed by Arkansas, Florida and Oklahoma State rounding out the top five. “We played O.K. today,” said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. “But we can definitely play better on this golf course. It was pretty windy today but we expected the scores to be a little lower. We’re going to try and go out tomorrow and do a little better.” The Lady Razorbacks continue play Saturday and Sunday at the Coca Beach Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
