Lady'Backs travel north for Big Red Tournament

LINCOLN, NEB. – The University of Arkansas softball team travels to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the Big Red Tournament beginning Friday.

The Lady Razorbacks, 10-19 overall and 0-3 in the Southeastern Conference, face Nebraska (15-7) and North Dakota State (16-11) with games at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

“It is our off week in the SEC and will give us another opportunity to step out of conference and play a quality opponent on the road,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “Nebraska is tough at Bowlin Stadium, but the tournament comes at a good time for us to reevaluate where we are as a team and correct some things before we travel to Alabama and Tennessee.”

The Lady’Backs were swept against their last two opponents, South Carolina in the SEC opener and Western Illinois Wednesday, 3-1, 2-1.

Nebraska enters the tournament on a seven-game winning streak and wrapped up an unbeaten weekend at the Shocker Invitational in Wichita, Kan., last weekend, while North Dakota State took a3-0, nine-inningvictoryand doubleheader split with Creighton Universityon Thursday, breaking a four-gamelosing streak.

This is the Lady’Backs’ first meeting with Nebraska and the second with the Bison. Arkansas defeated NDSU last year in Fayetteville, 3-0.
