FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Freshman Alonzo Lane scored a career high 18 points and three other Razorbacks scored in double figures to lead Arkansas to a 98-60 win over Jackson State at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Lane hit seven of 10 shots from the field and earned four rebounds in the winning effort. Chris Walker scored 14 points and collected seven rebounds while Charles Tatum pitched in 13 points. Carl Baker earned 10 points and eight rebounds for the Razorbacks. Jackson State center Vincent Jones led the Tigers with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Arkansas (4-1) dominated from the start blitzing Jackson State (2-4) with a 15-4 run from the opening tipoff. The Razorbacks extended a 24 point halftime lead in the second half and cruised to the 38 point victory. For only the second time this season, Arkansas outrebounded its opponent with a 52-37 edge.
“We didn’t expect a game like this,” Arkansas head coach Nolan Richardson said. “We got into the game quickly. We were very aggressive. We attacked the boards and made some shots. The Shaq (Alonzo Lane) attack got to them. Our team played their hearts out.”
The Razorbacks won in their 100th game played at Bud Walton Arena. Arkansas posted a record of 90-10 in the first 100 games in the seven-year old facility. Razorback head coach Nolan Richardson also extended another streak. Richardson recorded a victory over his former assistant coach Andy Stoglin of Jackson State. Richardson is now 17-0 against his former assistants including 10-0 against Stoglin.
Arkansas returns to action on Tuesday night at Bud Walton Arena when the Oklahoma Sooners travel to Fayetteville. The 7:05 p.m. game will be televised by the Arkansas Razorback Sports Network.
