The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team has won two games in a row and continue the non-conference portion of the 2011-12 schedule on Thursday night, Dec. 22, when it hosts Louisiana Tech at Bud Walton Arena beginning at 7 p.m. Arkansas (7-3) continued its undefeated run at home on Tuesday with a 71-57 victory over Eastern Kentucky and are looking to open the year at 8-0 in Bud Walton for the eighth time in nine years. The Razorbacks used a total team effort to propel themselves to victory against Eastern Kentucky as nine players scored and all but two of the 10 that played tallied at least five points. Sophomore Mardracus Wade led Arkansas in scoring with 13 points and freshman Devonta Abron was dominant on the boards with a game high 10. The real difference for Arkansas against the Colonels was its free throw shooting. After hitting less than 70 percent from the charity stripe in three of the last four games, the Razorbacks responded by going 29-of-35 (82.9) from the line and the +14 free throws made would end up being the final margin of victory. Louisiana Tech (7-5) has won three straight games including a 56-53 victory against Northeastern on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs are an impressive 5-0 at home, but just 1-4 on the road and 1-1 at neutral site venues this year. Senior Trevor Gaskins is the main weapon for the Bulldogs as he is the leading scorer and rebounder on the club. Gaskins is averaging 11.3 points per game and shooting an impressive 35 percent from range. His 5.0 rebounds lead a squad of Louisiana Tech players who rebound by committee as 10 players range from 2.2 to 5.0 in the category. The game between Arkansas and Louisiana Tech is the first between the two programs since Dec. 30, 2006 and the sixth all-time. The Razorbacks are a perfect 5-0 against the Bulldogs and Thursday’s meeting is the fourth time that the two squads have met in Bud Walton Arena. The Arkansas-Louisiana Tech game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call. The Razorbacks take a short break after the game on Dec. 22 and return to Bud Walton Arena Wednesday, Dec. 28, to play Charlotte.
