Lawrence named SEC Freshman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas redshirt freshman Christina Lawrence was selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced Monday. This is the second such honor for the Sullivan, Mo., native this year and the fourth overall for Arkansas in the 2005 season. Lawrence also captured freshman of the week honors the first week of the season. "Christina had another monster weekend," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "This is her first semester of real competitive volleyball. She didn’t play club in high school and was very raw when she arrived but she’s worked very hard and literally learns something new every week. She also has a competitive fire that we have been missing on this team." Lawrence paced the Lady Razorbacks to a pair of SEC Western Division wins over Alabama and Auburn last weekend propelling Arkansas to the top of the divisional race. She tied her career-best with 17 kills in a five-game win over Alabama Friday hitting .452 with two blocks. Lawrence also played well in the four-game win over Auburn Sunday recording 12 kills and hitting .304. Arkansas opened the year hosting the Arkansas Invitational and Lawrence was ready to make a name for herself in the first weekend of collegiate play. She paced Arkansas to the tournament title with three wins earning all-tournament team honors. Lawrence and the Lady Razorbacks return to the court Tuesday hosting Oral Roberts at 7:00 p.m. For more information about Arkansas volleyball, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
