FAYETTEVILLE — Freshman Stacy Lewis tied for 11th place as the 16-ranked University of Arkansas Lady Razorback golf team finished tied for ninth at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., Sunday.
Arkansas carded a final round 314 slipping three spots from Saturday to tie South Carolina for ninth place overall with a three-day 929 (303-312-314) on the challenging University of Florida Golf Course.
“I’m a little disappointed with our finish,” said head coach Kelley Hester. “We counted an 83 twice. The second and third days we lacked one score. It’s a hard golf course but Wake Forest played well. Playing courses like this helps prepare for the post-season. If you can learn to play it, you can get better. Stacy was solid and Amanda (McCurdy) hung in there. She was even on her last three holes. We need to re-group and move on.”
Lewis, who won last week’s Central District Invitational, again emerged as Arkansas’ top finisher finishing tied for 11th with a 227 (75-75-77) to lead the Lady’Backs.
El Dorado, Ark., junior Amanda McCurdy tied for 18th overall with a 299 (74-78-77), followed by junior Courtney Mahon who tied for 43rd with a 235 (76-76-83). Hot Springs, Ark., senior Gena Johnson signed off on a 243 (83-83-77) finishing 68th while junior Sarah Trew posted a 248 (78-83-78) finishing tied for 78th.
        Eighteenth-ranked Wake Forest won the event with a field-blistering 883 (294-297-292) including a tournament-best 292 in the final round. Third-ranked and Southeastern Conference member Auburn finished second with a 902 (304-293-305) followed by top-ranked Duke with a 903 (298-304-301).
Big Ten member Purdue, ranked 31st this week, was fifth with a 921 (307-310-304), followed by 15th-ranked Florida at 922 (300-307-315) and sixth-ranked Georgia with a 927 (310-305-312). Eleventh-ranked Tulane checked in with a 928 (314-309-305) for eighth-place while the Lady’Backs (303-312-314) tied SEC foe South Carolina (309-310-310) for ninth with 929.
Arkansas returns to the links March 11-13, traveling to Austin, Texas, for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. For more information about Arkansas golf log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
