Lewis awaits start of LPGA NW Arkansas Championship

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior Stacy Lewis takes part in the inaugural LPGA NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., Friday. Lewis tees off at 1:16 p.m., from the 10th tee Friday and is paired with Kris Temulis of Naples, Fla., and Jill McGill of San Diego, Calif., for first round play. "These last couple of months have been crazy," said Lewis. "I’ve been in a different city every week. It’s been so much fun. I’ve played really well. I’ve been looking forward to this week for the past three months now. I can’t wait to see what the crowds will be like, and I think it will be a great event. " Lewis’ summer has indeed been busy. After winning the 2007 NCAA title, Lewis went on to several amateur events winning the Western Amateur early in the year. She also competed at the U.S. Women’s Open, the U.S. Women’s Amateur, the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic and the Copa de las Americas just to name a few. "I got in — I played in an event last week, so I didn’t get in until late Sunday night and then I’ve just been trying to take it easy," Lewis said. "I tried to play a few holes Tuesday but it started to rain. But I’ve played the course so much that I feel confident." The field features several professional players including headliners Natalie Gulbis and Christie Kerr. Lewis won’t have much time to rest after the event.
