Lewis leads Arkansas third after the second round in Puerto Rico

FAYETTEVILLE – Stacy Lewis remains in the lead for the University of Arkansas while the Lady Razorbacks are just three strokes out of the team top spot after two rounds at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Monday.

Lewis fired a second round two-under 70 to pair with Sunday’s four-under 68 for 138. She leads two other players who finished at 141 Monday.

Arkansas shaved three strokes off its first round total carding a 293 Monday. The sixth-ranked Lady Razorbacks are in third with a two-day 589 (296-293). Kent State leads the field after a 287 in the second round. KSU is ranked No. 17 in the Golf Week poll and is No. 14 in the Golfstat poll and they sit on top of the leaderboard with a plus-10 586 (299-287).

“I’m really pleased with everyone,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “Everyone’s game is in a pretty good place after the long break. Our goal in every tournament is to be in contention to win and we’re just three strokes behind heading into the final round.”

The 27th-ranked LSU Tigers are second with a 587 (297-290) followed by No. 6 Arkansas 9296-293) with a 589. Number 16/20 Alabama is fourth with 590 (293-297) and No 30/29 TCU is fifth with 593 (293-300).

Arkansas freshman Kelli Shean moved up the leaderboard Monday after a second-round73 for a 148 (75-73). The Cape Town, South Africa, native was tied for 29th after the first round but moved into a tie for 13th after Monday’s play.

Junior Lucy Nunn also moved up in the standings after a 74 for a 151 (77-74) and is tied for 34th overall. Sophomore Tiffany Phelps is tied for 41st with 152 (76-76) and sophomore Alex Schulte rounds out the Arkansas scores and is tied for 75th with 159 (79-80).
