Lewis leads North-South field

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas sophomore-to-be Stacy Lewis fired a four-under 68 to lead the field at the 103rd North-South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst Resort in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., Monday. Lewis blistered the par 72, 6,253-yard No. 2 Course at Pinehurst and carries a one-stroke lead over a pair of other golfers into Tuesday’s round. The Woodlands, Texas, native posted a 36 on the front and a 32 on the back nine to grab the top spot. Arkansas teammates and seniors-to-be Amanda McCurdy and Courtney Mahon are also in the hunt carding identical rounds of 73 as both shoot 37 on the front and 36 on the back. They are tied with several others for 12th overall in the field of 142. Senior-to-be Lindsey Hinshaw added an 80 Monday and is tied for 86th overall while senior-to-be Sarah Trew is tied for 97thafter a first-round 81. The top 64 golfers from Monday and Tuesday’s stroke play move on to match play Wednesday. All five Lady’Backs move on to Tuesday’s round where McCurdy, Lewis and Trew tee off from the first hole on the No. 8 Course.
