Lewis selected to SEC Community Service Team

LOUDON, Tenn. – University of Arkansas senior Stacy Lewis was selected to the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Community Service Team the league office announced Thursday. The selection is the second of her career for The Woodlands, Texas, native. “Stacy is very deserving of this award,” said Arkansas coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “She works hard in all areas of her life and her commitment to community service is no exception. I think this honor says a lot about the type of person Stacy is.” Lewis has participated in the Sweat Hogs, which promotes physical activity in area youth in elementary schools. She has volunteered at the Richardson Center, feeding Thanksgiving dinner to area families, participated in Razorbacks for Christmas, hosting a play date for area kids at Lokomotion Family Fun Center, volunteered to host area youth in a bowling outing and has been a participant in Arkansas Athletes Outreach Champions of Character. She has also been active with the Christmas Clinic at the First Tee, helping area youth get involved with golf and participated in several Girl Scout clinics and at National Girls and Women in Sport Day clinics. In addition, Lewis tutored at Farmington Elementary School and participated in several bingo outings at area retirement communities. Thursday’s announcement is the second for Lewis and the fifth for the Lady Razorback program since the award’s inception in 2003-04. Previous winners include Melissa Murray (2003-04), Lina Axlesson (2004-05), Courtney Mahon (2005-06) and Lewis (2006-07). Lewis and the ninth-ranked Lady Razorbacks traveled to Loudon, Tenn., Wednesday and enjoyed a long practice round Thursday on the eve of the 2008 SEC Championship hosted by Tennessee. Arkansas and the 11 members of the SEC tee it up at Tennessee National, a Greg Norman signature course, Friday morning. Arkansas is scheduled for an 8:50 a.m. central start and is paired with No. 10 Auburn and No. 19 LSU in the first round of the three-day event.
