Jump to results FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas junior and National Champion Stacy Lewis added several more trophies to the case this week winning the 92nd Women’s Southern Amateur Championship in Birmingham, Ala., Friday. Lewis took home trophies for medalist honors shooting a qualifying round 67 on Monday. She teamed with Lady Razorback teammate Lucy Nunn and the duo brought home the team trophy for lowest combined round as well. Then Lewis rolled through the match play week at Riverchase Country Club tearing up the course and her opponents. Thursday’s play saw competitors play two rounds with Lewis only needing 31 holes to dispatch of a pair of opponents. The Woodlands, Texas, native had 15 birdies on the day and never trailed. She moved into the finals of an event that saw Lewis finish in the runner-up position one year ago. Lewis faced two-time winner Virginia Derby Grimes with Grimes winning the first two holes of the 36-hole final. Lewis found her grove on a course that’s been good to her all week and was up five by the 17th hole. But a two-and-a-half hour rain delay cooled off Lewis’ putter and the match got tight. Derby Grimes was able to hit some putts and found herself trailing by one at the 27th hole. But again Lewis rallied and pulled away over the next six holes with Lewis winning 4 and 3. Lewis had 11 birdies in the final day of play. For more information about Arkansas golf, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
