FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas golfer Craig Lile claimed his second tournament victory of the season at the Pepsi Southwest Missouri State Challenge in Springfield, Mo., at the Highland Springs Country Club on Tuesday.
“He played pretty solid,” UA head coach Bill Woodley said. “He shot 4-under today and that put him at 10-under for the tournament. That is pretty good.”
Lile started the day in second place at 6-under par after the first two rounds on Monday and came out on Tuesday, shot a final round 68 to claim the tournament title by five strokes and finish the tournament at 10-under par.
“I am very happy to win but even more happy to see that the team is making strides,” Lile said. “I was pleased with how I managed my game today. I was not playing as well as I could have for the past two days, but today I thought things out before each shot.”
The Razorbacks grabbed their best finish as a team for the year by finishing in third place behind Arkansas State and North Texas. The Hogs finished the tournament at 875 and trailed ASU by 11 strokes.
Finishing second for UA was sophomore Drew Higginbothom who finished tied for 18th with a 224 after shooting a final round 76. Higginbothom’s 72 in Monday’s second round ties a career best that was shot earlier in the season at the Kiawah Island Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate. Sophomore Beau Galyean (74-73-79 – 226) and junior Ryan Blagg (78-75-73 – 226) finished tied for 25th. While Redshirt freshman Adam Wing rounded out the Razorback lineup finishing in a tie for 32nd with a three round total of 228 (74-78-76).
The Razorbacks will play in their fourth tournament in the month of October at the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate in Baton Rogue, La., on October 30-31.
