VICTORIA, Texas – Razorback junior Craig Lile will begin play at the 2000 NCAA Central Regional at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas May 18-20. Lile was invited to play in the regional in an announcement May 9th.
The par 72 course is 6,870 yards and has served as the host of the Texas State Junior Boys and Girls Championships, the Southern Texas PGA Section and Western Championships and the Lone Star Mini-Tour Event.
The Central Regional is one of three conducted May 18-20. A total of 421 participants have been selected for the regional competition and 156 of these players advancing to the championship finals May 31-June 3 at the Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Ala.
Lile is one of six individuals in the tournament and must place in the top three of the individuals not on a team to qualify for nationals.
The all-Southeastern Conference first teamer played a tournament at the Victoria Country Club in February. Lile placed fifth in the in the Udamon Southwest Classic hosted by the Southwest Texas State University. He shot a 1-over-par 217, carding 72, 71 and 74.
Lile finished the regular season in fifth place in the SEC overall with a scoring average of 71.81.
In just his junior year, the South Africa native claimed his first and second career victories. At the Lexus Invitational, he shot a low round of 12-under-par 204 for the victory. At the University of Texas – San Antonio Invitational, Lile fired a 4-under-par 209, defeating the 60-plus competitors. Lile also had five top 10 finishes in 2000. Lile will tee of at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 18.
