FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After claiming his second consecutive NCAA 3,000-meter steeplechase title in Baton Rouge, La., junior Daniel Lincoln finished seventh at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday night in Palo Alto, Calif.
“His season was too long,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “He ran in so many races, because when someone is that good you have to. He was too good of an athlete to overuse and I take the blame for that.”
Lincoln qualified for the finals after finishing second in his heat in the semifinals on Friday night with a time of 8:30.25. In the finals he took the lead on the fifth lap, but fell back towards the end of the race to finish for a time of 8:30.63 and the seventh-place finish.
Former Razorback track athlete Seneca Lassiter captured the 1,500-meter title with a time of 3:40.90. Other former Razorbacks that competed were Matt Hemingway who tied for second in the high jump with a clearance of 7-6.00. Calvin Davis finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.84 and in the triple jump Robert Howard registered a mark of 53-6.5 to finish sixth.
