Sophomore opposite Liz Fortado recaps her recent trip with the USA Volleyball Women’s Junior A1 National Team for the 9th Annual European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. “My trip to Europe was unbelievable! I learned more than I could have imagined. Being placed with 10 other girls that I had never met before and having to learn to trust them to have my back on the court really helped me grow as a player. I had to be a leader and have patience that everything was going to come together. I also had to expand my game and play six rotations, which I rarely played before. At first, everyone was all over the place but by the end of the trip, my team seemed unstoppable! We started out the trip in Slovenia, which is an absolutely breathtaking country. We scrimmaged Slovenia, Czech Republic, and Hungary. Once we got to Pula, Croatia, we had the opening ceremony for the tournament. Every team was introduced by a song from their country, and we were called out to "We Will Rock You." We made it all the way to the semifinals but lost to BIP Southeast which was a mixed team of some USA girls and other countries. We had a huge fan base and crowd most of the tournament because one of my friend’s little sister (Camille Conner) was there with the Texas Tornados playing in the youth division. They did an amazing job of cheering and bringing others to watch our games! I grew really close to my teammates and coaches by the end of the trip. I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to work with all of them. This trip is making me count the minutes until I can get back on the court and play for my Razorbacks! Go Hogs!!” The Razorbacks’ season begins Aug. 30-31 with the Arkansas Invitational at Barnhill Arena.
