FAYETTEVILLE — The No. 19 University of Arkansas men’s cross country team resumes its season Friday afternoon with the fourth annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. The men’s 8K competition is scheduled for a 12:40 p.m. (CT) start at the Badgers’ Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The Razorbacks will be one of 46 teams in the field and one of 20 nationally ranked teams. “We had to go out and get some more inter-regional competition on our schedule,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “There are nine regions across the country and we needed to race against other ranked teams from those regions. We’ll get that opportunity this weekend in Madison.” The team’s lineup for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational is set to feature Drew Butler, Kemoy Campbell, Cameron Efurd, Eric Fernandez, David Flynn, Solomon Haile, Raymond Joseph, Anthony Lieghio, Layne Nixon and Cale Wallace. Friday’s race will be Arkansas’ third race of the season after opening the season Aug. 30 with the Razorback Invitational and competing Sept. 22 at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. In the team’s last outing, Arkansas ran to a second-place team finish at the Virginia meet. Campbell, in his Razorback debut, captured the individual title with an 8K time of 24:04.7. He was joined in the top five by Fernandez in third place and Haile in fifth. The rest of the team’s scoring lineup included Nixon in 24th place and Wallace in 28th. Campbell and Wallace earned weekly conference honors for their respective efforts. Arkansas is ranked 19th in the most recent release of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll. The Razorbacks are one of three ranked teams from the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas is the No. 2 team in the South Central region. Along with the Razorbacks and top-ranked host Wisconsin, the ranked teams in Friday’s race are No. 4 Oklahoma, t-No. 5 Iona, t-No. 5 Portland, No. 8 Stanford, No. 10 Syracuse, No. 11 Princeton, No. 13 Notre Dame, No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Columbia, No. 18 Northern Arizona, t-No. 20 Eastern Kentucky, No. 22 Texas, t-No. 24 Georgia, t-No. 24 Michigan, No. 26 Indiana, No. 28 New Mexico, No. 29 Virginia and No. 30 Missouri. Conference and regional foe Texas A&M will also compete. The Wisconsin adidas Invitational will be the Razorbacks’ final meet before the start of the championship season which begins Oct. 26 with the SEC Championships in Nashville, Tenn. Following the conference meet, Arkansas will play host to the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Nov. 9 at Agri Park in Fayetteville. The 2012 season comes to an end Nov. 17 with the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky.
