Lysa Advances At ITA Regionals

STILLWATER, Okla. – After a strong showing on day one of competition, Yuliya Lysa picked up two more wins Friday to advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Central Regional Championship.

In the round of 64, No. 30 Lysa defeated Southern Illinois Edwardsville’s Madeline Hill in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The Kiev, Ukraine native followed suit in the round of 32, downing Wichita State’s Aleksandra Trifunovic, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Lysa will face Tulsa’s Rongrong Leenabanchong in the round of 16.

Elsewhere on the court, Makenzie Craft and Shannon Hudson fell in their round of 64 matches. Freshman Ana Oparenovic notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory over South Dakota State’s Iasmin Roda but dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Kelsey Laurente of Oklahoma State in the round of 32.

“We did not lack effort out there overall today, but the execution was not quite the level we expect,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Tomorrow presents good opportunities for us in both singles and doubles.”

The Razorbacks return to the court tomorrow in both singles and doubles action.
