Magee SEC gymnast of week again

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior All-American Casey Jo Magee has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week for the second week in a row and the fourth time in her career.

She earned the award twice last year as a junior and has been recognized twice this season. The Eugene, Ore., native is the only multiple winner of the award for Arkansas and she’s now the first Razorback to win the award in consecutive weeks.

She was selected this week after winning five individual titles in last week’s home victory over No. 40 Pittsburgh.

Magee tied the school record and won floor with a 9.95, tied teammate Jaime Pisani for the vault title with a 9.875, won both bars and beam with a 9.90, and won the all-around with a 39.625.

Her all-around total matches her own score for the second-best in school history. She was named SEC Gymnast of the Week the previous week when she set the school record with a 39.65 all-around at No. 22 Minnesota.

Against Pittsburgh, her 9.90 on bars ties for sixth-best in school history and 9.90 on beam ties for 12th-best.

Magee is ranked No. 4 in the nation in the all-around.

Magee has scored a 9.90 or better in nine of her last 10 events, going back to the final two events at Washington on Feb. 26.

At Washington, she had a 9.90 on floor and a 9.925 on beam. At Minnesota, she had a 9.90 on bars, 9.925 on vault, 9.925 on floor and 9.90 on beam.

Arkansas has been in the top 10 all season and has moved up from No. 8 to No. 6 over the last two weeks.

The Razorbacks are also ranked in the top 10 in all four individual events in the same week for the first time this year. Arkansas is No. 7 on beam, tied for No. 9 on floor, tied for No. 10 on vault and No. 10 on bars.

Magee, Pisani and the Razorbacks host No. 2 Oklahoma on Friday at 7 p.m. in Barnhill Arena. It’s also senior night as Amy DeFilippo, Magee and Sarah Nagashima compete in Fayetteville for the final time.

Promotions for Friday’s meet include water bottles sponsored by Spine Sports Rehab Chiropractic Center, American Heart Association Night, a Dell Notebook drawing with everyone in attendance eligible, a 23-inch Samsung LCD TV giveaway to a UA student, the 100-Year Fan of the Year drawing before the meet and Civil Service/Military Night in which anyone with a badge, civil service ID (police, fire fighters, EMT, etc.) or military ID are admitted for $1.
