BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has been recognized as the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week (Sept. 18), it was announced Monday.
Mallett quarterbacked Arkansas to a thrilling 31-24 victory at Georgia, with 380 yards of passing and three touchdowns. The Texarkana, Ark., native threw a game-winning strike to junior wide receiver Greg Childs for a 40-yard scoring play with 15 seconds left in the contest to seal the victory for Arkansas. The three-play touchdown drive started with 0:47 left on the game clock.
Mallett, leading the now-10th-ranked Razorbacks to a 3-0, 1-0 SEC mark with his performance, threw touchdowns from 57, 22 and 40 yards in the game. The victory improves UA to 3-0 for the first time since 2003.
The Razorback signal caller has amassed 1,081 yards of passing thus far in 2010, completing 70-of-100 attempts for nine touchdowns. He currently leads the NCAA in passing and ranks third in the country in total offense.
Mallett has also picked up national offensive player of the week honors from The Walter Camp Foundation and Rivals.com for his performance against Georgia.
