FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following a school-record performance in Saturday’s 49-14 defeat of Vanderbilt.
Mallett threw for 409 yards against the Commodores to break the UA record of 408 he set last year against Georgia and post the highest single-game total in the SEC this season. The Texarkana, Ark., native produced the fourth 400-yard passing game of his career and second this season.
Mallett was 27-of-44 passing with three touchdowns Saturday. His 44 attempts are a new career high and rank as the third-highest single-game total in Arkansas history, and his 27 completions are tied for third on the school’s single-game list.
Mallett, who was named a Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist last week, is averaging 306.1 passing yards per game in 2010 to lead the SEC and rank fourth nationally. He stands second all-time at Arkansas with 6,073 career passing yards and third on the Razorbacks’ career passing touchdowns list with 48. His career total offense output of 6,006 yards ranks fourth all-time at UA, and his 397 career completions rank fifth on the program’s all-time list.
The 17th-ranked Razorbacks hit the road for a top-20 showdown at South Carolina this week. Saturday’s game with the 18th-ranked Gamecocks kicks off at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
