FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles has announced a $250,000 gift from Mary and Fred Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., for a planned golf practice facility for the Razorback golf programs.
The Mary B. and Fred W. Smith Golf Center will provide an indoor facility that will enable the UA golf teams to prepare for competition regardless of weather conditions. The contribution is the initial gift in an ongoing fundraising effort for the facility.
“We are extremely grateful for the countless contributions that Mary and Fred Smith have made to the Razorback athletic programs,” Broyles said. “They are avid Razorback fans and their unwavering support and generosity has allowed us to enhance our entire athletic program with outstanding facilities. With this gift, we will be able to construct a state of the art golf practice center that will help us compete at the highest level.”
The Mary B. and Fred W. Smith Golf Center will include a practice range, an indoor putting green, office space and fully furnished shower and restroom facilities. At this time, a number of locations for the facility are still under consideration. Mr. Smith was the long-time CEO of the Donrey Media Group and is the Chairman of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. He and Mrs. Smith are long-time Razorback fans and supporters.
“We are very appreciative of the contributions that Mr. and Mrs. Smith have made to the Razorback golf program,” Arkansas head golf coach Mike Ketcham said. “Their generous gift will help provide a first-class indoor facility that can be used throughout the year. It will help us as we compete against other programs in the Southeastern Conference in an attempt to win a national championship.”
