Mascall Set for Qualifying Action at All-American

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas netter Colin Mascall will take on Hicham Laalej, a sophomore from Stetson University, in the first round of the qualifying bracket at the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships. The draw for the qualifying rounds was released Sunday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Mascall will attempt to earn a spot in the main draw of the event which begins Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. His opening match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Laalej was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year after his freshman season at Stetson.

Mascall already has a spot in the main draw of the doubles event with partner Blake Strode. The duo is ranked No. 12 in the preseason ITA polls. The doubles competition will also begin Thursday. Strode, No. 20 in the preseason singles rankings, has earned a spot in the main draw.

The brackets for the singles and doubles main-draw action will be available Wednesday when qualifying play has concluded.

In the pre-qualifying rounds, Dmitry Lebedev fell in the second round to Central Florida’s Brock Sakey, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Lebedev advanced to the second round via a walkover victory.
