KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Amanda McCurdy led the University of Arkansas and the field wire to wire at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., taking individual honors and leading the third-ranked Lady Razorbacks to a third-place finish against a stacked field.

McCurdy tied for the second lowest round of the day with a two-under par 69 to win her first title of the season and post a career best round of even par (213) on the par 71 course. McCurdy’s win is the second for a Lady Razorback in two competitions as Ashley Medders took the top spot at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational just last week.

“I am very proud of Amanda,” Arkansas head coach Kelly Hester said. “This is a great win against a talented field. I am also pleased with the team finish although we haven’t played our best golf yet. We left some shots out there this weekend, but I’m pleased with the hard work and what we’ve accomplished with this tough schedule.”

McCurdy’s final day score coupled with a 71 by sophomore Stacey Lewis helped the Lady’Backs post the best round of the day at just six over par which gave Arkansas a team score of 889, just seven strokes off #2 Georgia’s 882 and four back of sixth-ranked Purdue (885). Rounding out the top five were the Swedish Junior National Team (892) and #16 Tennessee (899).

With McCurdy taking most of the headlines at the Cherokee Country Club, flying under the radar was Lewis whose 71-shot day moved her from a tie for 15th up to a tie for seventh in the overall standings. Senior Courtney Mahon shot a competition high 77 on the day to finish tied for 18th while Lindsey Hindshaw rebounded from a tough two days to shoot a three-day low of 73.

Competing unattached, Trew moved up 16 spots with her round of 73 on Sunday afternoon to finish tied for 30th.

The Lady Razorbacks now get a few days off before leaving for the Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational which begins on Monday, Oct. 31. For more information about Lady Razorback golf or about Arkansas women’s athletics, please go to www.ladybacks.com.
