FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s cross country head coach John McDonnell was presented by the United States Track Coaches Association his 49th NCAA Division I South Central Regional Coach of the Year honor Thursday evening.
“Cross country provides thousands of athletes an opportunity to participate in a wonderful team sport. It takes a tremendous amount of dedication for the coach as well as the athlete to succeed. We are indebted to all the coaches who make this possible and especially to coach McDonnell,” USTCA Executive Director Jimmy Carnes said.
McDonnell is in his 27th year as coach of the Razorbacks. His Razorbacks are ranked first in the nation, and has won the 1999 Southeastern Conference and the 1999 South Central Regional titles.
McDonnell has amassed 33 national championships, including nine titles in cross country.
The Hogs will attempt win an unprecedented tenth cross country title Monday, Nov. 22, in Bloomington, Ind.
